Lecture Summary
The Shaykh began with a stern warning from bidaa' and quoted the very famous hadeeth of 'Aisha concerning introducung new matters into the deen. He re-iterated that the shari'ah (legislation of Islaam) is preserved by men whom Allah has chosen, mentioning the virtue of the salaf from the hadeeth where the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said that the best of mankind is his generation, then those that came after them, then those after them. They preserved the deen by reinforcing it exactly as they received it and fighting against those who attempted to undermine it or tamper with it.
The Shaykh then gave the glad tidings that whoever follows the footsteps of these people i.e. the salaf then they are the ones on the blessed methodology of the salaf. The Shaykh continued to say that this methodolgy is a balance between extremism and negligence and he then brought the statement of Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullah) that the middle path has two sides and they are contrary to one another, and they will never gather together; one side is being negligent and the other is overstepping the boundry. So the person who is on the middle path is the one who leaves off both of these extremities. He expounded on the verses where Allah shows that the religion is the middle path. Ibnul Qayyim says that the entire deen is found between these two extremes. As for extremism the Shaykh mentioned that it is to place a burden on oneself that Allah didn't put on an individual. And avoiding this ghuloo (extremism) is to be upon the sunnah and the methodology of the salaf. The Shaykh mentioned that one evidence thatIslaam is the middle path between the christians and the jews, is that the christian exagerate in praising the prophets to the point of diefying them, and the jews belied, belittled and even killed them.
The Shaykh explained that Salafiyyah is the middle path between the two extremes in every affair. He then continued by mentioning the middle path in the affair of eeman and the affair of ahl bayt (the household of The Prophet (sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam). Our Shaykh destroyed the false principle of the Ikhwaan al Muslimeen and those who tread their path, that we will co-operate in what we agree on and excuse each other in what we differ, bringing statements of the Salaf us Saalih as evidence.
The lecture continued with a wealth of benefit for the Sunni upon the balanced and middle path.
We ask Allah to help us to be upon the Qur'aan and Sunnah and to call to its pure teachings and save us from the misguidance of the callers to the many deviated ways.
